Gene Becker
Hewlett Packard Laboratories
Gene Becker is director of the Utility Services Initiative at HP Laboratories, and is responsible for the development and commercialization of scalable computing services for digital media production and other large crunchy applications.
Previously, Becker founded the Nomadic Computing Department at HP Labs, a research group that developed advanced technologies for mobile, context-aware, ubiquitous computing. He was also one of the leaders of the CoolTown program, a web-based architecture and open source platform for ubicomp applications that helped define HP's turn-of-the-century technical vision.
For over ten years prior, Becker held technical/business leadership and management roles in emerging growth businesses for HP, including internet applications, enterprise computing, and consumer technology. He is a member of the IEEE and ACM. He holds an S.B. in electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and did graduate study in computer science at Stanford University.
