Roger Meike
Roger Meike, a senior director at Sun Labs, oversees multiple research and advanced development projects for Sun Microsystems, in areas ranging from VOIP, digital media, Digital Rights Management and storage to small Java Virtual Machines. In addition, Meike currently leads project Sun SPOT, an effort to design, build, market, and create a community around small, Java-based, wireless sensor devices. Meike joined Sun Labs in December of 2003.
Meike's background is in software development and embedded systems. At Martin Marietta Denver Aerospace AI group, he applied artificial intelligence techniques to network management for the International Space Station. As an early employee at WaveFrame, he designed and developed disk recording and DSP applications for music studios and film audio production. At Interval Research, Meike spent nearly six years working on new consumer electronic devices, and technologies for audio communications, electronic communities, and news.
Meike also has also been a founder of several startups, including Studio Magic (video production), Avio Digital (home media networking), and Pixlabs (digital photography).
Meike holds a degree in cognitive science, a combination of computer science, psychology, and philosophy, from the University of Rochester.
